Hela Provincial Health Authority is responsible for providing leadership, governance, administration and
management of health services to the people of Hela Province through policy directions and partnerships.

Hela PHA Board and the mandated sub-committees provide oversight of health services The Board is responsible for policy decisions while the sub-committees provide oversight.
Our Work
Hela Provincial Health Authority Board has the overarching corporate responsibility for the provision of
Curative Health Service and Public Health Services.
Hela Province, established in 2012, is located in the Highlands region of Papua New Guinea. It was formed from parts of Southern Highlands Province, encompassing the districts of Komo-Magarima, Tari-Pori, and Koroba-Kopiago. The province is rich in natural resources, particularly oil and gas, and is predominantly inhabited by the Huli people.
Location
Hela Province is situated in the Highlands provinces of Papua New Guinea and occupies roughly 10, 498 km2 of land mass, bordering Southern Highlands, East Sepik, West Sepik, Western and Enga Province. It is strategically located in the Oil and Gas rich province where major Oil and Gas companies -Exxon Mobil and Oil Search Limited (Santos) continue to extract Oil and Natural Gas from its land.
Political boundary
, Hela Province was administratively governed by Southern Highlands Provincial Government until 2012 when Hela became a Province of its own. Being one of the new Provinces in Papua New Guinea, the review of internal electoral boundaries has been continuing resulting in the establishment of Komo-Hulia district – the four districts; Tari Pori, Koroba Kopiago, Magarima and Komo Hulia
Population Density
Hela Province has seen continuous growth in population in the last decade from an estimated total population of 249,449 with a growth rate of 2.7% from the 2011 National Census. The population was estimated to have reached 299, 857 at the growth rate of 3.2%. By the year 2025, the population of the Hela Province is expected at 351,783.26 at the same growth rate of 3.2%.

Our Priorities
These priorities also inform the key interventions of this Corporate Plan 2022-2025. Consistent with priorities of the National Health Plan 2021-2030, Hela PHA has plans to:
Level 5 Provincial Hospital
build a brand-new Level 5 Provincial Specialist Hospital with external funding. We will
upgrade and rebuild the Hela Provincial Hospital in a phased approach over the term of
this Corporate Plan. We also plan to new build staff houses through the PIP funding.
Rural District Hospital
Build new rural district hospital infrastructure in the three district (Komo, Koroba and
Magarima) that will provide clinical health care services at Level 4.
